Newest addidtions

Got some new games for Playstation 2 last week. Broken Sword - The Sleeping Dragon and Prince of Persia - Warrior Within. Got a 2 for 1deal on Ebay.
Also got two controller extensions for Sega Mega Drive. Can also be used on Amiga and Commodore 64. Also bought on Ebay from China.

Think I forgot to mention that I got RC Pro Am and Kung Fu for NES a couple of weeks ago. Both in small boxes that were in not the best condition.

Also got 11 GameBoy plastic cases for the carts. Also from Ebay and China, so they are not original cases.

And I also downloaded Amnesia - The Dark Descent for free on Steam.

REVIEW: Castlevania II: Simon's Quest

I'm a big fan of the Castlevania games, much thanks to Castlevania II: Simon's Quest (but mostly for Symphony of the Night for PS1), so this was a must have in my collection.
I know many thinks this is a shitty game. Hell Angry Video Game Nerd made an episode of how bad this is. But I always liked it, even though it is very cryptic at times.

I have very fond memories of watching my older brother and cousin play this when I was young, and then later I got to play it but not sure if I ever managed to beat it back then.
It was not until I downloaded it on my Wii's Virtual Console I think I beat it first.

It's been a couple of years since then and I tried to beat it the other day on NES without walkthorugh.

I didn't remember much so it took some time, and I did get stuck one time and actually had to check what it was I had missed. But I did manage to beat it. It is not that hard. The thing that makes it hard is the cryptic puzzles. The enemies are vary simple compared to the first and third Castlevania. Dracula extremely easy if you know what do to.

But still I like this game and it is a classic and for me a must have in a NES collection, toghether with the other two for the system (which I don't have yet, but will get eventually).
Also this is the cheapest of the Castlevania games for the NES.

You can watch me playthrough the whole game here or watch the highlights of me beating it.
I got the bad ending this time but will soon playthrough it again and go for the normal and good ending.

Popeye for the NES

Popeye is a classic arcade game by Nintendo and was released in the arcades in 1982 and was one of the first game release for the NES in 1983.
It's based on the popular spinach eating sailor with the same name.
In the game you should avoid Popeye's arch nemesis Brutus and try to rescue Popeye's love Olive Oyl.

At the start screen you get 4 options.
1 player game A, 1 player game B, 2 player game A and 2 player game B.
Game B is just a harder setting of the game.

The game consists of only three different levels and after you beat all three you start over from level 1 but the difficulty rises and you can continue as many rounds you can stay alive and collect points.

The first round your at the docks. Olive is throwing heart that you should collect, and when you collected 24 hearts you advance to next round.
You also have to avoid Brutus who are trying to get you. You can't hit him but you can hit the objects he's throwing or get the spinach and then you can run into him and he flies across the screen and you get points. But the spinach only last a few seconds.
You can also hit the punching-bag so the bucket falls and with right timing it lands on Brutus for more points. The further down he is on the screen the more points you'll get.

Second round Olive is throwing musical notes. 16 of them and you advance to round three.
Here you can get extra points by going on the seesaw and hit the floating platform where Swee'Pee is sitting.
And as the first round look out for Brutus.
You will have spinach to help you deal with him in this round too.

The third round Popeye's on a boat. Olive is this time throwing letters that spells H E L P.
Each letter caught will start building a ladder up to Olive Oyl.
24 letters and Popeye's love is rescued.
Other than Brutus you also have to look out for a vulture. But one hit in the beak and you earn 1000 points.

Fourth round you'll back at level one but now you an evil hag will throw skulls at you as well as you have to avoid Brutus for each new round. If you start game B she will be there for round one. First two skulls, then if you manage to complete all levels again she will throw one more skull.

At first this game seem a little boring but after a while you want to do better and better, and is quite fun. Not super great but still enjoyable.

My record so far is round 8 with a score of 77110.

Got some new stuff in the mail

Today I got some video game stuff in the mail.
A 3.8mm security screwdriver to open up games carts for cleaning etc. Bought cheap on Ebay from a seller in China.
From the same seller I got these two cheap ass Megadrive/Genesis controllers.
They feel very plastic and toyish. But they work, and was very cheap. Just bought them so I have something to play with on my Megadrive, since my original controller is broken. My biggest complaint about them is that the cable is very short. Even shorter then the original controller which is also very short.

I also got the stickers that the guy I bought the Surprise pack from promised.

And earlier this week I also got a AV cable for the Megadrive.

A suprise in the mail today

I had ordered a surprise package from a guy on Facebook, same guy I bought my Mega Drive from, that arrived in the mail today.
It promised a Nintendo 8-bit game and one surprise.
There was a list of 20 games, I had 5 of them so it was a little bit of a gamble, and the surprise could be everything from another NES game, Gameboy game, controller, cables or stickers.

Thought it was a pretty funny thing to do, and it was a good price too I thought. So I gave it a shot.

So what did I get you may ask?
Was I pleasantly surprised or hugely disappointed?

Well... Look below and find out.

Eh... well it was a disappointment I'm afraid. Track & Field II and a... lollipop!? Well Track & Field II is a good game and all, but I already own a copy. A boxed, although a very worn box, copy.
It was a gamble, I know, so can't really be mad about the game. But I'm very disappointed about the lollipop. Was hoping for at least something Nintendo related.

Still I think it was a great thing this seller did. There was some really great games in the lot so some buyers was probably happy. And he did compensate me. Gonna get some Nintendo stickers

The start of my own Blogg

So I just decided to start a blogg about my Video game collecting.

First thing, let me introduce my self. My name is Anders and I'm a 34 year-old swede living in Norway.
I started collecting games about 4 years ago after discovering Angry Video Game Nerd and Pat the NES Punk on YouTube, and I also found my old Commodore 64 and Amiga 500 in my basement at that time, so I thought it would be fun to collect games. I also had a Nintendo Wii, Playstation 1, 2 and a PC, but had sold most of my games for those systems. Stupid!
But yeah, then I decided to start collecting. Mostly bought C64 games at first, cause they are pretty cheap but soon I bought other consoles.

Now I have 12 consoles/computers in my collection. PC, Playstation 1, 2 and 3, Xbox 360, NES, SNES, GameBoy, Wii, Commodore 64, Amiga 500 and my latest console Sega Mega Drive (Genesis).
I also have games for GameCube (which I play on my Wii) and for N64 (my next console to buy?)
I will not do a list of games I have here. Maybe in a future post. But for now you can go to my backloggery page to view my games http://backloggery.com/andyk81.

So what will I write about here?
Not sure yet. But I will write about my recent buys and about the games I play. Maybe do a small review. I'm also in the planning of making a text adveture for the C64, maybe Ill write something about that.

So yeah, that's it.

Hope it will interest someone.

Next post I will write about my most recent buys.
