Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade - The Action game

I decided to play through Indiana Jones and the Last crusade on Commodore 64. I own two copies, both on cassette. One in big jewel case and one in a collection box with Robocop, Ghostbusters II and Batman, called Hollywood Collection. Both I've had in my collection since I was a kid.
I played this a lot as a kid. Never beat it, so this was my mission as I started it.

The game has 5 stages. The first stage you are in a cave trying to find The Cross of Coronado and is one together with stage 3 the hardest stages.
Second stage you run atop of a train and this is by far the easiest level.
Third stage you are in the Catacombs in Venice also the stage ends with you going up the wall of Castle Brunwald.
Fourth stage you are on board a Zeppelin and needs to find Indy's dads diary and escape the Zeppelin.
Fifth and last stage you have to get to the Holy Grail before the time runs out, to save Indy's father, and try to avoid all the traps.
Each of the stages needs to be loaded after completing the previous stage.
Indy has 5 lives but you are given unlimited continues up until the last stage. If you die and get game over you need to load the game again.

It follows the movie pretty OK. Although you are adult Indy for the first two stages where in the movie it was young Indy that was in the cave and on the train.

I must say I really like the graphics. Very good for C64, I think. The thing that bothers me most is the controls. It's very easy to miss a simple jump sometimes.

I had to play both of my copies. First one I played, in the jewel case, had a bug when I tried to take the Grail in the end. Nothing happened.
The one in the Hollywood Collection was a bit different. First you load the title screen and get a message to reset the counter, probably so you can load first stage faster if you need to restart, then load the first stage.
Also in this copy I experienced a bug. Second stage was totally messed up, but the later stages was good and it was possible to grab the Grail in the end.

I'm also missing the copy protection for the jewel case version, so need to find that some how, but I have it in the Hollywood Collection.

After beating this I decided to try out the Sega Mega Drive/Genesis version, which I never had played before.

The settings of the levels are the same, but level design is different, except that level 3 is just the catacombs and level 4 is Castle Brunwald and there is no Zeppelin level.
Also every level, except the 5th have a boss fight.
This games is also much harder, and you only get 2 continues.
But after some frustrating hours I finally was able beat it.

I liked both versions. Even though I hated the Mega Drive version while playing it. But after beating it I sort of liked it. It gave a challenge.

PC deal

I got contacted by a guy on Facebook who had some PC games he wanted to sell. Nothing really exciting- I gave him an offer for all but he felt it was to low. And I understand him, was a very low offer.

But I did buy 3 of the PC games. Cutthroats, looks a lot like Sid Meier's Pirates, Myth The Fallen Lords and Return to Krondor by Sierra, which looks very promising. I had never heard of these games, but the boxes look really nice and was in almost new condition.

I also got 3 Playstation 1 games thrown in to the deal, Viva Football, complete but with broken cover, Hidden & Dangerous, also complete but a small scratch on the CD, and 007 The World is Not Enough, which I already have in a double box with Tomorrow Never Dies, but is nice to have on it's own. Although the instructions was missing so a little bummed there.

I am a big Bond fan and have decided to try and collect all the Bond games I can find.

I also bought Illusion of Time, cart only, for SNES, I have Illusion of Gaia which is the American version of the same game but haven't been able to get it to work with my SNES adaptor, so I decided to buy this also.

It was a decent price, at least compared to prices in Norway and Sweden. Bought it from Germany, but it was the UK version so English text in the game.

Alien Breed

On of my favourite games when I was you was Alien Breed. Me and a friend used to play multiplayer and had a lot of fun. I liked Alien Breed: Tower Assault the most which I thought was the second one, but now know it's actually the third game in the series.

So when I decided to collect video games Alien Breed was one of the first game I bought.
I bought the Special Edition '92 version, which is a bit different then the first Alien Breed game. I did not know that when I bought it.

This is actually a budget version that they released before the second game, The Horror Continues.

I still really enjoyed this game and had great fun beating it.
I will now try and find the first game and the sequels.

REVIEW: Castlevania II: Simon's Quest

I'm a big fan of the Castlevania games, much thanks to Castlevania II: Simon's Quest (but mostly for Symphony of the Night for PS1), so this was a must have in my collection.
I know many thinks this is a shitty game. Hell Angry Video Game Nerd made an episode of how bad this is. But I always liked it, even though it is very cryptic at times.

I have very fond memories of watching my older brother and cousin play this when I was young, and then later I got to play it but not sure if I ever managed to beat it back then.
It was not until I downloaded it on my Wii's Virtual Console I think I beat it first.

It's been a couple of years since then and I tried to beat it the other day on NES without walkthorugh.

I didn't remember much so it took some time, and I did get stuck one time and actually had to check what it was I had missed. But I did manage to beat it. It is not that hard. The thing that makes it hard is the cryptic puzzles. The enemies are vary simple compared to the first and third Castlevania. Dracula extremely easy if you know what do to.

But still I like this game and it is a classic and for me a must have in a NES collection, toghether with the other two for the system (which I don't have yet, but will get eventually).
Also this is the cheapest of the Castlevania games for the NES.

I got the bad ending this time but will soon playthrough it again and go for the normal and good ending.

Got a package from Japan

This week I got some games I ordered from Japan. They where both complete with box and instructions.

The games are Mystery Circle, a puzzle game like Tetris.Blocks are falling and you control a spaceship and have to draw a line around the blocks to get them to disappear. Looks pretty fun.
The other is Tengai Makyō Zero, Far East of Eden Zero. A RPG that is supposed to be pretty good. Hard for me to play because it's all in Japanese, but I liked the box and it was not expensive so I bought it.
Also it didn't work with my adaptor so haven't been able to test it.
